Updated: Dec 19, 2020

When you think of your air conditioner, you might think of comfortable temperatures and one more, accompanying device – the air conditioner thermostat. This small device has undergone an evolution of its own, leading to more of its kind, in the market. Currently, there are three kinds of air conditioner thermostats, and depending on your home-system, you might find, at least, one that will be compatible with your AC.

The Manual Thermostat

This device is one of the earlier kinds of thermostats, and is also known as, the analog thermostat. It is old-fashioned; however, its functioning and component outlasts other fancier and newer components. It also less expensive.

It requires manual adjustments that could leave room for error. This could be a problem, because, if it is not adjusted accurately, it could wrongfully read temperatures, and cause a wastage of electricity, and, consequently, money.

The Programmable Thermostat

It is a device that supports saving energy and resources. You can schedule and set your temperature requirements, for the week, without any manual adjustments. It assists in saving money by automatically turning the temperature up and down, based on your needs and comfort.

The device's component is more expensive than the Manual thermostat, and requires professional help, to be installed. This is because, the compatibility between your home-system, and the thermostat needs to be checked, for the device to work accurately and efficiently.

The Smart Thermostat

This device is the newest kind of a thermostat; suitable and compatible with a home-system that is technologically savvy and modern. It eliminates the scope for human error. It can be scheduled to control temperature settings, throughout the day and week, like the Programmable thermostat.

It requires Wi-Fi to function, and can be controlled using a smart-phone. It can provide energy reports, run times and can notify you when the air filter needs replacement!
